Audit for Power BI — Standard

Evidence first.
Then a plan.

For teams that need to know where their Power BI estate is fragile — failing refreshes, loose access, duplicated reports, hard-to-maintain models — without starting a large transformation programme.

Start with three counts only: workspaces, reports and priority models. Do not send credentials or client data.

Exactly what is assessed

Two review layers.
One honest boundary.

The automated checks and the consultant review answer different questions. The final report labels the evidence source, so the two are never confused.

LayerIncluded evidenceBoundary
Automated estate metadataAuthorized workspace inventory, reports, semantic models, workspace roles, recent refresh history, naming and duplication signals: ten deterministic controls. Not a tenant-wide scan. It never reads report data rows, and it only sees the workspaces you select.
Scoped expert reviewUp to five priority model/report pairs, from the PBIP/TMDL, sanitized exports, screenshots or guided session you approve. Eight static model checks (relationships, auto date/time, measure hygiene) support a human review of maintainability, model design and report usability.A targeted professional review, not exhaustive code verification, data reconciliation, penetration testing, legal compliance advice or formal certification.
How the evidence is captured

Pick the route
your IT will accept.

Both routes feed the same ten controls and the same report. Choose whichever is easier to approve; they can also be combined.

Option A — self-service scanner

You run a one-time script

  1. 01IT reviews the inspectable PowerShell script and its hash.
  2. 02You sign in with Microsoft on your own computer and select the workspaces.
  3. 03You review the result privately in the browser and export a redacted summary.

Typical effort: about 10 minutes once approved. Repeatable for the re-check.

Option B — guided screen-share

We capture it together in 30 minutes

  1. 01You share your screen in the Power BI service; nothing is installed.
  2. 02The consultant follows a fixed checklist: refresh history, workspace access, report and model inventory.
  3. 03Observations are read back to you before the call ends, and nothing is recorded unless you ask.

Typical effort: one 30-minute call. No script, no module, no IT ticket.

What you receive

Built to support a decision.

The sample deliverable shows the full paid format on synthetic data. The backlog and plan are written by the consultant, not generated by the app.

01

Evidence-backed findings

Scoped observations, prioritized and validated against the evidence you approved.

02

Executive summary

A concise view of material risks, coverage limits and decisions for the sponsor or BI owner.

03

Remediation backlog

Each priority action with its evidence source, impact, proposed owner, target date, acceptance test and status.

04

30-day action plan

A sequenced first month covering availability, access, cleanup and lightweight governance.

05

60-minute review

A focused readout for the sponsor and technical owner, including assumptions and open decisions.

06

One re-check

The same agreed scope is checked once within 30 days to evidence what changed after remediation.

Turnaround / seven working days

A compact, auditable engagement.

The clock starts when access works, the review artifacts are available and the named scope is confirmed.

  1. 01 / Day 0Scope lockConfirm the named workspaces, report count, five priority models and the capture route.
  2. 02 / Days 1–3Evidence captureYou run the scanner or join the 30-minute guided session, then share what you approve.
  3. 03 / Days 4–6AssessmentValidate automated findings, complete the expert review and write the remediation backlog.
  4. 04 / Day 7Decision reviewDeliver the report and hold the 60-minute readout. The re-check follows the agreed fixes.
Security posture

Minimum access.
Visible limits.

Customer-controlled access

You sign in on your own computer, select the named workspaces and approve any sharing after review.

No business-data queries

Metadata and refresh evidence are read, never report rows or source-system records.

Local-first

Raw scan metadata stays with you by default; the consultant receives only the summary or evidence you choose to send.

Deterministic assessment

No AI produces findings, and nothing is sent to an external AI service by this app.

Data handling, approved evidence formats, transfer route and deletion timing are confirmed before you share any material.

Is Standard the right scope?

A short fit check confirms scope, capture route and evidence format before either side commits. Email your workspace, report and priority-model counts — nothing else is needed.
